This post is about love. Love conquers all adversity.

Here are some thoughts on love from my Church service on Sunday:

  1. Lyrics from a song. “Your love is holding on and won’t let go.”
  2. The story about the good Samaritan: A man was attacked and beaten up badly on the road. The attackers left him for dead. A priest came by and saw the man. he went on the other side of the road and kept walking. A Levite came by and did the same thing. He kept going. Then a Samaritan came by and found pity for the man. He bandaged him up, and took him to an inn. He told the Inn keeper to take care of him and gave him money to do it. That is true love.
  3. When I am loving God with all my heart, I feel compassion for others.
  4. When I am loving God with all my heart, I care for the stranger, the outsider, even my enemy.
  5. Love your neighbor as yourself. Your neighbors can be anyone, anywhere, any time.

We Get Excited When the Weekend Comes. Are You Too Stressed to Enjoy it?

Today is my 301’st blog post. I was much higher at one time but my computer went out on me and I lost everything. I had to start over.

Today is Friday, which means that tomorrow is the weekend. Whoopi for those who are still working, but for us retired folks it is just another day.

I remember the excitement of an upcoming weekend. Enjoying my time with my wife and children. Doing fun things.

______________________________________________________________________________________

With the stressful times we have now, just how much time do you have with your family on the weekends? It is pretty hectic most of the time.

______________________________________________________________________________________

Here is what I would do if I was still working:

  1. Put family first. They are far more important than anything else.
  2. Don’t feel guilty if you don’t get something done that you wanted to get done. It will still be there tomorrow.
  3. Always reach out to your family and be positive for them every day.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

How about your spiritual life. Do you done things one way during the week and another way for church?

We all need to be consistent and worship with other Christians. I know it is sometimes hard to submit to God, and realize He is your authority. He is a very loving God, and when you obey Him He takes very good care of you. He made you on His own image.

Remember:

You are never alone.

You are never forsaken.

You are never unloved.

And above all…never, ever, give up!

Being Impatient is Something We All Struggle With

Have you ever had a time when you couldn’t wait? Was there something you really wanted, but it hadn’t come yet. We have all been there and done that.

  1. We wait for the right relationship.
  2. We want our careers to be much better. NOW!

Being impatient can happen to us as Christians as well. We want our prayers to be answered fast. We pray for peace and it doesn’t happen.

___________________________________________

We need to regroup and remember that God is in charge. He knows our needs, He hears our wants. He answers prayer for what He feels is best for us. Wants and needs are totally different things. God know our needs and waits on our wants.

One thing we never have to be impatient for is the reading the Bible. The Word of God lasts forever. Even though there are many translations God’s Word never changes.

I just went outside to look at our roses. There are many buds ready to open up[.God gave those to me to see. But even to flowers fade and die away. God’s love never fades. His love is sincere for us forever.

_________________________________________

We need to realize that everything we have was given to us by God. That is why I never hesitate to tithe at church. The money was all God’s in the first place.

My thoughts are…Take everything Lord. It is yours.

Some people seem to take God for granted. They go through life blindly thinking they can take on the world alone. Dr. Phil would say, “How is that working for you?”

I was like that once. I didn’t even go to church. There were sports on Sundays I didn’t want to miss.

I got a wake up call from God in 2001. It was March 31st to be exact. I was sitting in my Ford Explorer in a high school parking lot, ready to end my life. I had been struggling with depression, and it was overcoming me.

I finally cried out, God! I can’t take this anymore! There was a sudden calmness around me. I relaxed and ponder what had just happened.

It was like God was saying, “It’s about time you came back to me. Now let me lead you the rest of the way.”

My life changed that day. That day was the first day of the rest of my life.

______________________________________________

I have learned a lot since then.

  1. God is the Father of the fatherless. I was without a father because of divorce. I felt alone and my self image was shot.
  2. God is the defender of widows. There is nothing worse than to lose a loved one. God is there to comfort you during those times.
  3. God senses the loneliness in families. Seems odd to think you are lonely in your own home, but it can happen and is devastating.

______________________________________________

Another thing I learned is that a is my job is to be a leader in my home. Not a dictator that rules the nest with anger. Satan would love for men to claim authority over their family. This only leads to turmoil and sadness.

_______________________________________________

Take an inventory of your choices in life. Do you need an overhaul? Is happiness a word you do not understand?

Turn to God. He loves you. He made you in His own image. That means you are His child.

It has been a quiet day today. (Sure need those from time to time.) I just finished my post at www.dougbolton.com. Go there to see my latest excerpt from my upcoming book, Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the Trenches of Life.

If you or anyone you know are military. This is the site for you.

___________________________________________________________

Here is another excerpt from my first book, Signs of Hope: Ways to Survive in This Unfriendly World.

___________________________________________________________

Chapter 1

Stop the World and Let Me Off. I’m Tired of Going ’Round and ’Round

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 34:18

I was out of control. The sobbing filled my eyes with tears. I couldn’t see the road ahead of me as I drove my Explorer.

Everything seemed to be going wrong in my life. I had quit two jobs because of guilt. I even failed at running my own business. I quit the two jobs because I had to sell something to customers and I had a hard time trying to force people to buy something they may not really need.

The business that failed was a cash flow venture that helped businesses have a better flow of money while they waited for their accounts receivables to come in. I left that venture because I again had to convince people to take part in something they may not have needed.

Depression, self doubt, fear, anxiety, and even hopelessness, overcame me until I was in the pit of despair. I was a happily married man with three children and several grandchildren. I had a wonderful 25-year teaching career. Why was I feeling so low? Why did I feel so unloved?

All I wanted to do was to stop the madness and check out of this wretched hotel called Earth! I pulled my SUV into a high school parking lot in a secluded area. I was ready to commit suicide. The date was March 31, 2001. The next day was April Fools Day. A very fitting time to have your life end, don’t you think?

I did have the common sense to call my wife Charlotte. She came quickly to where I was. She calmed me down enough to where I thought I could drive myself home. After she left, I sat there behind the steering wheel still crying, and then I yelled, “God, I can’t take this anymore!”

In a flash, there was calmness in me. It even felt different in the vehicle. The air was fresher and cooler. It was as if God were saying, “It’s about time you came back to Me. I have been waiting for you. Let Me carry you the rest of the way.”

My life changed that day. I gave my life back to God.

I had been a Christian since I was about 16. But I was the poster child for a lukewarm Christian.

Yes, I went to church and made sure my children went also, but I wouldn’t say I was a perfect example for them. I rose up in my church to where I was the Sunday school superintendent and on the important Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, but in my heart I didn’t put God first.

On Sundays, I stayed home if there was a good football game on. You didn’t have to go to church every Sunday, did you? God let me know I did. He also let me know of a new direction for me to go.

Why had I allowed myself to fall to such a low spot? Why had I drifted so far away from God?

The answer my friend is I was in a battle with many afflictions like self-doubt, anxiety, etc. Those aren’t fancy medical terms like cardiovascular disease or leukemia, but they are just as deadly. These demons of the mind can control your life to the point where you are not functional. It can cause you to hide from the world and let your life go on unnoticed until you die. It can push you to ending your own life.

This book is for those who want to discuss all the enemies of man like self-doubt, fear of failure, divorce, death in the family, and many others. I want to share with you how God used me to write this book, and how He pulled me out of the muck and mire.

The walls we put up in life can be caused by a loss of a loved one or extreme trauma. We can put them up because of sexual abuse, inappropriate or unclear expectations, divorce, poverty, violence in the family, family addiction or environment.

Do you often feel like you don’t want to go to work? Are there times when you feel like you would rather stay in bed and not face the world? Have you fallen into the pit of despair without even knowing why you did? Have you ever felt lost—and alone?

You are not alone! Close to 19 million American adults, or about 9.5% of the U.S. population age 18 and older, suffer from some kind of handicapping mental disorder in a given year.1

Now that I have totally broken you down—there is hope! There are treatments that can help you. See your doctor to find what treatment is best for you. Then go to where there is eternal treatment, and that is through your loving heavenly Father.

The first part of this book talks about putting on God’s armor and fighting against the many mental afflictions. This information is from the horse’s mouth. That would be me. I have gone through many battles of my own. I have felt lost, and I thought that there was nowhere to go. I lived that way for many years. I existed from day to day, struggling with my emotions. I found out that I didn’t need to go through the torture. I had places I could go for help. I found out what they were, and I invite you to find out too.

Bare with me! There is a happy ending.

“I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will guide him and restore comfort to him, creating praise on the lips of the mourners in Israel. Peace, peace, to those far and near,” says the Lord. “And I will heal them.”

Isaiah 57:18–19

Further Adventures

You know how easy it is to let your emotions take over in your life. You’ve been there. It is too easy to let the little things grow from molehills to mountains. When each trial comes up, try to put it into perspective. Is it something that is going to be life-changing? Is it something you can’t handle yourself?

You could tell in this chapter that I couldn’t handle what was happening to me, and what happened next? I felt God was changing me.

Stop in the middle of your grief and say, “Why am I so out of control? What can I do to stop this madness?” The answer was easy for me. I ran to God like a long lost prodigal son, and He opened His arms and took me back in like any father would do with his own son. You should do the same: Run to God and let Him carry you the rest of the way through your life like He is doing for me.

Something to Ponder

Isn’t it funny how we let the smallest winds grow into a full-blown storm?

We are told by our leaders in the church that we must pray. We must seek help from God. However, does it really work? God says yes. Matthew 18:20 says, “For where two or three come together in my name, there I am with them?

God hears our prayers, and He answers them in His own way. It says also in the Bible, to pray without ceasing. We should be talking to God every day.

Prayer unleashes God’s power. It changes us, and it changes the way we look at circumstances.

When we pray it resets the heart, and eliminates the horrible sounds around us.

How the world would change, if we all prayed as if we believed the prayers would all be answered.

Instead of criticizing, we should pray. Instead of protesting, we should pray.

_______________________________________________________________

Take inventory on your prayer life. There is the need for prayer more than ever. Take time each day to pray for:

  1. Our country.
  2. Our national and local governments.
  3. For you own family.

If we ALL prayed every day, what a difference it would make in the world around us.

Idolatry is Causing Many to Turn Away From God

In our world of sadness and chaos we wonder what we need to do to survive in this not so friendly world. I heard a powerful message at church yesterday about idolatry.

When we think of it, many of the dictators of this world live off of idolatry.

Think about the Taliban in Afghanistan. They have only one thing on their minds, and that is people worship them or they die.

__________________________________________________

The Bible has a story about a city that turned to idols instead of God. God punished them by destroying the whole city. There was nothing left there but dried bones.

The people who lived through this cried for help, and God said they need to repent to receive His grace.

Here is a definition of idolatry:

It takes place when we exchange God’s self revelations and replace them with our own ideas of who we think God is or should be.

The essence of idolatry is thinking thoughts about God that is unworthy of Him.

________________________________________________

Have our bones dried up because we worship idols like, cell phones, TV, our new car, or boat?

Take inventory of your live and see if you have placed something in front of God that you idolize.

Some thoughts:

God can be trusted.

God’s promises are sure.

God loves you just the way you are.

More updates from Afghanistan.

Horrible reports are coming in. The most aggreges one is that a woman who was cooking for the Taliban was burned alive because she didn’t cook the way they wanted her to.

Many more horrible stories coming in I will not share, because of the graphic scenes it may cause.

I try to think on as many positives things as I can. I think we need to lighten up the dark side a little.

I had to miss two weeks of church while on vacation, last week. It was very hard to do that. I need to keep hearing about the good things God is doing for us.

_____________________________________________________

Here are some good things God does for us.

  1. He loves us unconditionally.
  2. He protects us from the dark side.
  3. His Son died so that we may have eternal life.
  4. When storms come, He is there holding our hand and helping us through them.

______________________________________________________

Have you had some storms come into your life? has it been a rough road for you?

FEAR NOT! The shortest verse in the Bible comes from Jesus Himself. He is there with us 24/7.

I have been learning about what justice is through my church. It has been a theme for several weeks.

The Pastor’s definition was : Loving what is good and hating what is evil.

Makes sense to me.

One thing we need to remember is that God’s purpose for justice differs from OUR pursuit of justice.

His purpose for justice is purification and restoration. We get that in one place. It is on the cross.

When we try to take on the world alone without Jesus we tend to be corrupted. It can catch us when we are unaware. The Black lives matter movement, and the anti everything groups darken our view of what is right and wrong.

One thing we must never forget is that everyone needs compassion and forgiveness. Even the anti groups.

Never let the dark side sway you into thinking in negative ways.

Take courage; hold on, and be strong.

___________________________________________________

If you are getting caught up in the turmoil of the rioting, and people attacking the government, stop now and know that God is in charge. He knows what is going on, and He will correct everything when he is ready.

As for you and I. We need to pray for God’s guidence, and be open to His suggestions. Life would much more livable if we let God take charge of our lives.

It has been quite a week for me. I am showing tremendous improvement with my problem of shortness of breath. My cardiologist gave me a new drug and it has completely changed my life. The shortness of breath has been cut down tremendously.

To be able to breath normal is a life changer for me.

_____________________________________________

Factors that keeps me thinking positive, are:

  1. I know God is always there for me.
  2. I know that Jesus is only a prayer away.
  3. My health has improved greatly.
  4. My family has been so supportive.
  5. My wife takes such good care of me.
  6. I have many friends who care.

All of those add up to a life that is manageable.

______________________________________________

I am still grounded from being able to go to church in person. I have to be there through online. There are blessings in every wall we face. Because I am not able to go, the church has asked me to be a person who is there to answer questions on line. I am called a host, and people can ask for prayer, or just ask questions.

I have many wonderful experiences with that. I have been able to help people who need prayer, and I have made many new friends I wouldn’t have had if I wasn’t online with them.

_______________________________________________

How are you doing? Are you on lock down again, because of the new virus? Do the days seem to drag on?

My suggestions:

  1. Take up a new hobby. Something you have always wanted to do, but didn’t have time.
  2. Get some new books to read. I have three waiting for me.
  3. Call friends just to talk.
  4. Go for walks in an area where there aren’t many people.
  5. A book to read? The Bible. It is true story with many happy moments.
