Doug Bolton, the founder of Signs of Hope, is writing  a new book, “Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the Trenches of Life.” It will be reaching out the many military and veterans who may be battling anxiety, fear, depression, addictions, rejections, PTSD, and the many other usual suspects. There are 22 military connected suicides every day. That is almost one every hour. Doug wants to help stop those statistics. Be looking for more details about the new book. Doug Is also seeking military who would be willing to do an interview. It will be part of the book. Sharing by actual soldiers will help many others. Doug just interviewed a WWII veteran. Super Bowl Champions

Today is Superbowl Sunday and right now you, like most Americans, are probably getting together with a bunch of junk food to party with friends and family to watch the big game! I love the super bowl for many reasons— but the ultimate reason for me to watch is because I love good competition. After tonight one team will be crowned champion and the other will fall to second place. This level of game elevates the competition because the stakes are so high. Both of these teams have battled over the past year in the weight room, training, and competition to get to this point and now only one can be the champion. The crowning moment is hugely rewarding because of the effort put into a great victory.

Leading up to Super Bowl Sunday one thing has been ringing in my mind on a daily basis— “run in such a way as to win the prize…” It’s the summarizing verse out of 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 where Paul is encouraging the Corinthian people to walk out their faith with the highest level of excellence because at the end of this race there will be an imperishable prize for those who did not give up.  How much are you willing to fight for the prize? Super Bowl Sunday is amazing and the glory at the end of the day will be great, but temporary. All the time, energy, and effort going into only a moment of glory! I have so much respect for the coaches and athletes commitment to train and exert so much energy into becoming the best at what they do. We all have stuff in our lives that we put an exceptional amount of work into— yet at the end of all your endeavors, where will you end up? Where will your reward take you? What will be the prize of your life taken into eternity?

“Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat down on them; nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; ‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’ And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” Revelation 7:16-17

The conviction on my heart is to follow Jesus with my whole heart. I have pushed all my chips into the middle, and I have found no reward greater than eternal life in the kingdom of heaven with the God who loves me so much that he offered up His life as a sacrifice for mine. Not only did he take away my sin and guilt but he is preparing a place for me in his kingdom.

I believe Jesus is calling you to himself today, you are the prize he has been fighting for and pursuing— you are never alone, and you are always loved.

Today this is a Sign of Hope, that no matter the circumstance you are in, or the breakthrough you need, God is near to you and He has “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

* New England Patriots won over Atlanta Falcons in overtime 34-28.

To Encourage or Not ?

Are you having a good day or a bad day? A happy day or a sad day? Are you ahead of schedule or you just can’t catch up? Are you focused on a goal or just getting by? Is life ahead of you or did it leave you behind? Are you happy to see your family or can’t wait to get out the door? Are you drowning in debt or are you walking on water with a bundle in the bank? Is the Sun warming your face or scorching your back? Is the water in the shower just the right temperature or are your rain soaked clothes frigid as ice?  Are you warm and secure in a place called home or are you wandering the streets always alone? Do your problems seem many and solutions too few? Are you actively involved engaged in your life or are you coasting invisibly far from sight? Where are you? Who are you? Do you really know?

One thing is for certain, this I do know; today is the “first day” of the rest of your life! No matter who you, no matter what your situation, no matter where you are, “YOU” have the freedom to choose; to be happy not sad, to be on time not late, to be focused on a goal not lost in a fog. You have the freedom to choose to be actively involved with life, with the World around you, with the ones you love. You have the freedom to choose to be part of the solutions vs. part of the problems.

The choice is yours, no one else can make it for you! Do you choose to live “YOUR LIFE”, to be “WHO YOU ARE”, to fulfill “YOUR PURPOSE”?

I believe in my mind and with all my heart that each and every one of us is significant, that each of us has a purpose, that each and every one of us makes a difference! It is because of the firmness of that belief that I can say to you; that I believe in the goodness of man, that I believe in you, I believe in me, I believe in “WE”. I believe that if each and every one of us should be encouraged, inspired to truly look within our minds and hearts to find our passion, that which we are passionate about, to pursue it in full measure overcoming any obstacle, to be relentless in our pursuit for excellence in that which we love.

Would not each and every one of us benefit from encouraging others to answer their true passion, to find, live, and fulfill their purpose? Of  course WE would! Would not the World, OUR World benefit? Of course it would! When WE are fulfilling OUR purpose, are not more solutions bound to be found? Of course they are! Would not more problems be addressed, resolved, need not exist? Of course!

The choice is OURS to make; WE can choose to encourage not discourage, to be involved, to better OUR lives, OUR circumstance, to be a part of OUR solutions and minimize OUR problems.

The choice is OURS to make! It starts with each of us, within us, on the “first day” of the rest of our lives. That’s today, right now, right here! Be true to that which is within you, hear your mind, feel your heart. Trust God and know YOU are of significance! You are an unique person created by God for a unique purpose. Live your passion, experience life, your life as it was meant for you to live it! You don’t need to know what lies ahead, that would probably be more detrimental than good, but concentrate on right now, THIS DAY. It is a “Day that the Lord has made” and its your choice to rejoice in it, just as it is your choice to share that joy to encourage others. While you may not know what may come tomorrow, if you know God, then you know the one that is in control, just let him guide your next steps. He will not lead you astray and He will not leave you on the trail. He is with you till the end..and even beyond…

I believe in you! I believe in me! I believe in WE! Shall WE begin?
