Doug Bolton, the founder of Signs of Hope, is writing  a new book, “Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the Trenches of Life.” It reaches out the military and veterans who may be battling anxiety, fear, depression, addictions, rejections, PTSD, and many other usual suspects. There are 22 military connected suicides every day. That is almost one every hour. We need to help stop those statistics. Be looking for more details about the new book. Look for updates here.

UPDATE!!  In the final stages of having the book finished. Much of it is already sent off to my editor. The countdown begins!!

Do you remember “Leave it to Beaver? (It was a family show on TV back in the 50’s) I loved that show. A family crises, but resolved by the end of the show. You moved on and all was well.

We have really changed since then don’t you think? Massive amount of divorces. Suicide rates are rising fast. Many children only have one parent.

I could say a  lot  more, but it hurts too much to even type the words.

What has happened? Why such a different world?

We fight each other! We attack, and try to make others look bad so we can look better.

We need to understand this:

Our battle are not against people, but with the forces of evil.

The bottom line is that we all need a heart transplant. Our hearts have become corrupted. We have allowed the world to overcome us.

Friends, We are not part of this world if we truly believe.

I understand how hard it is to try to stay out of the muck and more of life. I have been to the bottom of the pits struggling to stay alive.

Here  is what I have learned:

  1. We need to put on the armor of God. The armor is really the character and faith that you have.
  2.  We need to talk to others with gentleness and respect. What a difference this would make.
  3. Suffering for what right is hard, at best, but it is right with God.
  4. We should never be shaken or frightened. Be bold in your faith.

It is hard to catch your breath in this day and age. We are in what they call the rat race. Well, even rats rest.

We need to go back to the basic of the Bible and live by them.  The United States has been walking down the wrong path for the last eight years. Hopefully it will turn the corner and walk a new path now.

Stay the course! Talk the talk, and walk the walk. Never waver. Never give in to this world. Walk the path of righteousness, with God.

Remember:

You are never alone.

You are never forsaken.

You are never unloved.

And above all…never, ever, give up!

Are You Poor in Spirit? Rejoice!

” Blessed are the poor in spirit, for

theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 5:3 (NKJV)

The poor in spirit…

What does “poor in spirit,” mean? The word poor in Greek means to crouch, a beggar (as cringing), pauper, asking arms, needy, and lacking in anything.

The one who is poor in spirit is lowly in heart, convinced of his or her spiritual poverty and pleads as a beggar to God to be replenished.

The poor in spirit one has emptied himself or herself of all pride, selfishness, and ambition through humility, gratitude and submission to God.

…are blessed…

Blessed in Greek means happy, supremely blest, fortunate, well off, and that which is the highest good.

…for theirs is the kingdom of heaven…

The Greek word for kingdom means royal power, kingship, dominion, rule, the territory subject to the rule of a king.

Without recognizing one’s lack of spirit, one cannot realize God’s fullness.

Grace cannot be poured out to one oblivious of his or her necessity for it. The poor in spirit have the fulfillment of heaven’s kingdom dominion.

The one who is poor in spirit is blessed with the kingdom abundance of riches. “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33 NKJV)

Scripture tells us that we share in God’s kingdom because we are His children,

“For {God’s} Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that were are God’s children. And since we are His children, we are His heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share His glory, we must also share His suffering.” (Romans 8:16-17 NLT)

Are you poor in spirit? Then shout because you are blessed. The riches of Christ are yours. The kingdom of heaven is yours. Hallelujah!

FROM HIS FEET, LYNN

Plans of mice and men!

Last weekend was Easter weekend. I made a commitment of not over eating this year. I was determined not to “pig out.”

We had two days of Easter gatherings. The first gathering was the day before Easter. We gathered with my wife’s side of the family. The setting was beautiful. We all met on the Oregon Coast, and it was a wonderful day. Not a cloud in the sky; a little windy, but warm. I was looking forward to seeing all of the family again.

Then they started arriving. One had my favorite bean casserole; another had yummy ham. Still another had scalloped potatoes. (Did I mention my sister-in-law brought the best spaghetti on the planet?)

The aroma was incredible, as they warmed all the feast in the oven. While we waited there were the appetizers. There was shrimp with a tasty shrimp cocktail; a homemade dip out of this world, and chips to go with that wonderful dip.

Then there were the desserts! There were homemade brownies, apple pie, cupcakes, and a yummy chocolate pudding pie.

Do you see where this is going? I said I was determined not to pig out, but I was doing a lot of oinking by the time the meal was done!

We face this in life as well. We “promise” not to sin, but we want the flavor of life to be good, and we want the dessert as well. We fall off the wagon, and sin.

Unlike over eating, there is something we can do about our sins. We can depend on God to see us through the riggors of life. He will take our hand and lead us through temptations. He will put on the armor of righteousness and protect us.

When you are tempted to seek the pleasures of this world, remember to turn to God, and have Him pull you through the muck and mire of this earth.

With God on our side, who can be against us?

Remember:

You are never alone.

You are never forsaken.

You are never unloved.

And above all…never, ever, give up!

We want to thank  our guest blogger this week, Tim Hegerch. He shows us how to have more joy in our lives. In this day and age, we need to learn this.

How do I get more joy in my life?

I imagine that is a question that many of us have asked from time to time. Over here in the USA, we can find plenty of things to blame for a lack of joy in our lives. Work is hard to come by, medical care is expensive and only shows signs of further increase, and at least fifty percent of the families in our country are broken homes.

If you haven’t looked for joy today, I would gamble you’ve wanted more joy to life someday in the last week or two at the very least.

However, with so many things in life taking away from our joy, what can we do to build up more joy in our lives?

“The hope of the righteous brings joy, but the expectation of the wicked will perish.” Proverbs 10:28 ESV

It only makes sense that in a world where malice and chaos take our joy, righteousness would add to it! Living the way God has taught us to in scripture will not only increase your joy, but also of those you act righteously towards. Allow me to offer a real world example of God’s word in action…

Have you ever noticed that no one takes joy in finding out that a child has been abused?

It is often depicted in television and movies that even some of the most wicked people will change their stripes when it comes to harming a child.

Think of what is fueling many of the changes around your world? In the States, school lunches are under constant scrutiny because we can all agree a child’s health is important.

Laws are often created when our children are victims of crimes. Programs like the Amber Alert system was created with confidence that when a child goes missing, people will spring to action.

Caring for our children is an act of righteousness. Jesus commanded us to care for the orphaned, while Paul challenged fathers to love their children and teach them not to live with anger.

As a father who just last year was blessed with my first son, I saw firsthand how many people change their entire demeanor in hopes to see my son smile for them. The righteous act of caring for our children causes joy!

This is just one way of many righteous things that naturally bring joy to our lives. When was the last time a lie continued to bring joy into your life?

When was the last time that arguing with your husband or wife made you both go to sleep happy? How many times has someone’s wickedness towards you caused you to be sharp or rude towards others?

Don’t let joy escape you any longer. Choose this day to find God’s righteousness for yourself, and you fill find hope and joy for everyday you walk this earth!

There is truth in our world, and it lies within the word of the One who created the world.  It is my prayer that my thoughts and writings echo this truth and inspire you to seek it for your life today!
