Being an author has been a thrill for me. My first book received a national award from the Reader’s Favorite Awards.

I am now working on my second book called, Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the trenches of Life. It is almost finished and will come out by Christmas.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

Sounds peachy keen right? Well, I have found that it is hard work and stressful. Not that I don’t enjoy writing. I love it, but there are other things I have to do like sell the book. I have been self publishing, which means it is all up to me to the marketing, promotions, signings, etc.

I am 83 years old and now am wondering if I have the stamina to go on with the big push for my second book.

________________________________________________________________________________________

Here is my feelings on that:

  1. Your never too old to start something.
  2. Use your age to be a expert on things people want to know about.
  3. Take time to do what ever project you are working on. Rushing has been bad news for me.
  4. Enjoy what you are doing. Don’t do it thinking you have to do it.

____________________________________________________________________________________

The most important thing to remember is that God is with you. He knows about your dreams. He knows what you are capable of. He will guide you down your path, or He will stop you if He thinks it is too much for you.

____________________________________________________________________________________

Remember:

You are never alone.

You are never forsaken.

You are never unloved.

And above all…never, ever, give up!

Last week I went to four doctor’s appointments. FOUR! I wish I could go to Walmart and buy me a new body!

______________________________________________________________________________________

Do you feel age creeping upon you? Does it seem harder to do some things? I certainly hear you.

What does all this mean. My top ten thoughts….

  1. I am still above the daisies.
  2. People understand me when I repeat myself.
  3. Aging is good excuse to miss out on some yard work.
  4. Your children start calling you “Old man.”
  5. You just can’t find that watch you are looking for.
  6. You can watch the same TV shows, and not remember the first time you watched it.
  7. Tying shoes gets very hard.
  8. I used to walk, now I stroll.
  9. Driving is now not my favorite thing to do.
  10. Naps are wonderful.

______________________________________________________________________________________

You can see that this is the way I handle my aging. Humor!! It is not the end of the world to get older, and the alternative is not good.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

Enjoy your life. You only do it once. The good news is that your getting another day closer to being with the Lord. I’m ready.

________________________________________________________________________________________

Remember:

You are never alone.

You are never forsaken.

You are never unloved.

And above all…never, ever, give up!

I am having a bad hair day. I fell yesterday and the second day aches and pains are here visiting me. It was at my niece’s house and didn’t see that her living room was a step down to get into it. I hit my grand nephew’s stroller and landed directly on my right knee. It scraped up my knee, but today it is hurting on the inside of knee in the bones as well.

______________________________________________

Have you had some falls? Do you have aches and pains from everyday efforts? You certainly are not alone. For people my age, (82) falling is not an uncommon thing. I am now living with a cane.

______________________________________________

Do not let this drag you down like a huge magnate. We will always have aches and pains.

I could say, “Buck up and quite whining,” But I feel for you. Getting older is not for sissies.

______________________________________________

Here is my list to cling to during my aches and pains:

  1. Remember the pain that Jesus had to go through for us. Our pain is nothing compared to that.
  2. I use my ailments to reach out to others. It helps them, and makes me feel good.
  3. Never let the darkside control your thinking. It is easy to be depressed all the time if you let that happen.

______________________________________________

I know that if you cling to God’s promises the pain won’t feel as bad. He is there for you. He knows your aches and pains. Pray for His protection, and comfort. He listens.

______________________________________________

You are never alone.

You are never forsaken.

You are never unloved.

And above all…never, ever, give up!

I am off to the Oregon Coast today. Weather says it will be nice. Looking forward to it.

______________________________________________

I have been wondering when all my pain will go away. I have had so many different ailments and hurts it is hard to be positive all the time. I still manage to do that.

______________________________________________

How do I keep that attitude?

  1. All pain will cease when I am heaven.
  2. Jesus suffered much more than I can ever imagine.
  3. Suffering builds character.
  4. Suffering can be used to reach out to others who are suffering.

______________________________________________

I realize that what I am saying may be a little over reaching my abilities. However God has sustained me so far. He knows my pains. He knows my needs. He knows what is best for me. So I cling to his promises, and you should too.

_______________________________________________

If you are suffering, I am so sorry, but try to use your suffering to help others. Try to seek God’s help through prayer. he will hear your pleas.

I tore a muscle in my chest. My doctor said that because of my age, it will take much longer to heal. Lovely!

I am living with the pain, and taking Tylenol. It seems to help a little.

_____________________________________________

Have you had sudden things happen to you caused you physical and mental pain?

There are many of us like that.

I have some thoughts on how to face the world with this happening to us:

  1. Pain only last for a while, and then it is gone.
  2. Suffering is a part of a Christians life. I am not saying we should suffer as a Christian, but God knows we are suffering and He is writing it down in our book.
  3. Use your pain to help others who are suffering. Helping others helps you with your pain.

The situation in Ukraine is pulling me down like a huge magnate. If I was able, I would be going there to help the people fight.

Many civilians are dying from direct bombing of their homes. This is not an accident. Many are Christians or Jews. Sounds like WWII all over again. Putin has been called the new Hitler and rightfully so.

Please pray daily for peace and protection for all the suffering Ukrainians.

We also need to pray for our own country. We are at a pivotal spot. New decisions by the supreme court can change our country.

If you are battling depression and anxiety from everything that is happening, be strong in knowing God is with you if you are a Christian. He knows your situation. He knows your pains. Pray for His promises, and love.

I am very tired today so my spellcheck better work. 🙂

I am getting to the age where every new day is a blessing. I am almost through with my second book, Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the Trenches of Life.

It is a book for the veterans who are struggling with life. It covers PTSD, TBI, Depression, anxiety, etc. It also shares live for me while I was in the military. Some funny and not so funny stories there.

Go to…www.dougbolton.com to find out more about the book.

________________________________________________

My next book will be called, Signs of Hope for Seniors: The Alligators that Chase us. I am an expert on that since I am 82 years old and counting.

It will talk about aging, of course, but also about loneliness, health issues, depression, lack of memory, being sent to assisted living, and many more of the usual suspects for seniors.

Also…stay tuned here for excerpts from my first book, which won and national award, Signs of Hope: Ways to Survive in an Unfriendly World.

It is perfect timing for the way that our world is today. It speaks about being strong when the storms of life try to overcome us. It shares ways to stand up to the rush of daily problems.

I will share my first excerpt in my next post on Monday. So keep coming back to check them out. Better yet…go to the top of this page and click on “Subscribe.” When you do all future posts will come directly to your inbox.

I had a stressful week. I was having chest pains, and went to see my cardiologist. There were some blood tests done, and she said they came out great. She said that often chest pains come from your heart having to work overtime. I wasn’t sure what that meant. However, she assured me I could keep exercising and live my life normally.

What a relief! I have congestive heart failure, and I struggle with palpitations all day long with A-fib.

I have decided not to worry about it and enjoy life.

Have you had stress come into your life? Did you get a not so good doctor’s report. Did you lose your job? Did someone you loved passed away? You certainly are not alone. There are many people in the same boat with you.

So, what do we do to survive in this not so friendly world?

  1. Remember, 90% of what we worry about never happens.
  2. Be strong and keep on keeping on.
  3. Let God take care of your worries. He has big shoulders.
  4. Know that God knows even the hairs on your head. So He knows everything about you and what you need.
  5. Cling to God’s promises. He will never cause you to face more than you can handle.

I had a bad/good time going to see the Singing Christmas Tree in Tigard. It is a incredible show that has you feeling the Christmas spirit.

However, I have slowed down considerably the last couple of years. I had to have a cane to walk. Of course our seats were at the very top. I struggled big time going up those steps to my seat. People were looking at me with sympathy. Several wanted to help me, but I turned them down.

Of course I had to go to the bathroom twice during the performance! My nephew graciously helped me both times.

Like I said, the performance was incredible, with professional sounding singers. My favorite part was when the children’s choir sang. Their little angelical voices warmed my heart.

Are you having similar problems? Do you struggle to go grocery shopping? Do you need someone else to get things for you?

You certainly are not alone. The number of 65 and older group in our world has grown a great deal. Many more people are getting past their prime.

Here is the most important thing for you to remember:

Having to need help does not make you any less of a person than anyone else.

You breathe the same air. You put your clothes on the same way. You have a lot to contribute to society.

Never let anyone degrade you for your slowness and incapacities. They will be there themselves some day.

God loves you the way your are. Know that you will have a new body when you get to heaven. There will be no pain, and no death.

Today, I am going to talk about aging. I am an expert! (80 something)

It is so hard once we reach the “golden,” years. Things slow down. Not just in the world, but in your body.

I try to walk as much as I can, but things aren’t going in my direction.

Yesterday, I decided to go on a short walk on my own street, which is a Cul-de-Sac. I did the first trip around, and headed for my second. I got about half way and suddenly realized I had rubbery legs for some reason.

It got worse quickly. I started wavering like a drunken sailor. I was afraid I was going to fall. I struggled big time to finish.

I made it back into the house and crashed at my desk. It took me a long time to recuperate.

What was going on?

I was getting older, and the tent I am living in was getting leaks!

This frightened me big time. Do I need to make funeral preparations?

NO!

I just need to accept that I can only do what I can do. I shouldn’t try to stretch my abilities beyond what I can do.

I am not going to stop walking, but I will start out at a shorter distance and work my way up to longer walks.

___________________________________________________________

Do you have this same problem? Is age creeping up on you, and you are really feeling it? You certainly are not alone. The majority of humans on this earth are getting up in years.

I have been thinking hard laterly. (It is giving me a headache.)

Why am I fighting old age? I should embrace the days God is giving me.

I saw a great acronym the other day. Instead of TGIF, It should be TGIT Thank God it’s today. We need to thank God for every day He is giving us, and not worry about how things seem to be getting very tough for us to do.

You are never forsaken.

You are never unloved.

And above all…never, ever, give up!
